By re-wetting the formerly drained cutaway bogs, the park is transforming into a naturally wet peatland that enables carbon storage.

Eco-Visitor Centre
Opened in 2014, the visitor centre was built with sustainable materials and includes a green roof, solar energy panels, and an ecological wastewater treatment system.

The park uses a Visitor app for navigation and interpretation, significantly reducing the need for printed maps and brochures.

Slow Tourism
The park promotes “slow tourism” through its 50km of off-road walking and cycling trails, encouraging low-impact exploration of the Irish midlands.
Velo Rail
A new Velo Rail Experience allows visitors to pedal through the parklands along a 4km looped rail route which was built using repurposed rail materials for eco-friendly recreation.
