Web Accessibility

BnM is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) Regulations 2020.

We are committed to ensuring that loughboora.com achieves “Level AA” conformance with the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2. Our goal is to ensure that our digital content is perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for all users.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. “Partially compliant” means that some parts of the content do not yet fully conform to the accessibility standard (see the “Known Issues” section below).

Accessibility Features

In addition to meeting standard technical requirements, we have implemented the following features to enhance your experience:

  • Skip to Content: A skip link is available at the top of every page to allow keyboard and screen reader users to bypass navigation and move directly to the main content.
  • Semantic HTML: We use appropriate structural markup (such as headings, lists, and landmarks) to ensure content is clear when using assistive technologies.
  • Flexible Layouts: The site uses modern CSS for layout. Content remains readable and functional even if CSS is disabled or if the page is zoomed up to 400% without loss of information.
  • Responsive Design: The site is optimised for viewing on desktops, tablets, and mobile devices to ensure a consistent experience across all platforms.

Non-Accessible Content (Known Issues)

While we strive for 100% compliance, we are aware of the following areas where we are working to improve:

  • PDF and Office Documents: Some of our older documents (PDF, Word, or Excel) may not be fully accessible (e.g., they may lack proper tagging or alternative text). We are working to ensure that all new PDFs are created with accessibility best practices in mind.
  • Third-Party Content: While we strive for full compliance, our website utilises third-party social media integrations that are outside our direct technical control. We actively encourage our partners to prioritise accessibility within their platforms.

Currently, we have identified specific accessibility limitations within our Photo Gallery. These include keyboard navigation challenges within the image lightbox and pagination controls. We are working to identify more accessible alternatives to improve the experience for all users.

  • Video Content: Some historical video content may lack synchronised captions or audio descriptions.

Preparation of this Statement
